Custom sauce, primacy law and hunger gauge: this is how you will eat right outside

Making small changes in the way we buy, cook and serve food can create a significant change in our health. But what about food in a restaurant? Many of us sometimes eat out a few meals a week, whether at work or leisure – which can reach a third of our calorie intake. Routinely, even when eating out, you can save extra calories and enjoy a healthier and more nutritious meal with a few simple adjustments.

Susan Bowerman, director of nutrition training at Herbalife, gives tips on how to eat right even when eating out:

Hunger meter – Do not come to dinner when you are hungry. One of the common problems when eating in a restaurant is that it takes time to sit down, browse the menu and place the order. By the time your meal arrives, you are already starving. This is why many restaurants serve a basket of breads and dips before a meal.

Instead of getting hungry, eat something small before you leave the house: fruit, a few tablespoons of cottage cheese or yogurt, or a small handful of nuts, so you can easily avoid eating bread and dips that can add hundreds of calories to your meal even before you eat the first course.

Water in Sasson– Cocktails, wine, soda and sugary drinks such as lemonade are not satisfying but they definitely add unnecessary calories and sugars. Instead, always prefer water or shade with unsweetened iced tea, or mineral water with a slice of lemon / orange / cucumber.

Custom sauce– Opening the meal with a salad is a wonderful habit that is worth adopting, as long as the salad is not loaded with high-fat ingredients and a sauce rich in fat and calories. Prefer plenty of green vegetables and a sauce of oil and vinegar served on the side, and create a “custom dip”. Dip the fork in the sauce, then bite into some green leaves that you have loaded onto the fork. This way you can enjoy a small taste of the sauce with each bite, but use a significantly smaller amount of sauce.

Fisherman loves fish? – And you? If you are a fish lover prefer them over meat. As long as the fish is grilled or roasted and not deep-fried in oil, it contains far fewer calories compared to the same serving of red meat.

The law of primacy– Be the first to order. If you are dining with a group, try to order before everyone else does. If you have planned in advance what you will eat, it will be easier for you to eat according to your menu if you place your order first, before you are affected by everyone’s choices. When it’s dessert time, you can order fresh fruit or coffee even before you peek at the menu – and before the other diners order sweet cakes / desserts.

Sharing is goodDivide the portions and keep track of the number of calories. Dishes in the restaurant can be huge. Therefore, share the first dish with a partner for a meal and order extra vegetables, or ask to pack the leftovers immediately after you have eaten your dish.
