Russia-Ukraine crisis: US administration orders 8,500 troops on alert

The US administration today ordered 8,500 of its troops to be on standby, with the possibility of sending troops to Eastern Europe on the table. The crisis, which is getting worse by the day, is hurting the US stock market and affecting oil prices. All of these add to the diplomatic rift between Russia and the United States and force the Biden administration to take action.

So far, the White House has made threats of sanctions only on Russia, but President Biden has repeatedly said that the price Putin and his country will pay for invading Ukraine will be heavy. This statement does not seem to have deterred President Putin from sending tens of thousands of troops to the Ukrainian border.
