Turkish report: The new ISIS leader was arrested in Istanbul

The Turkish website OdaTV reported a short time ago (Thursday) that the Turkish security forces captured in Istanbul the new leader of ISIS, Abu Hassan al-Hashmi al-Qureshi.

Abu Hassan al-Hashmi al-Qureshi was appointed to his position last March after the previous ISIS leader, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashmi al-Qureishi, blew himself up during a raid by US special forces in Idlib, Syria.

According to the report, al-Qureshi was captured in a raid by police officers from the counter-terrorism unit at a house in Istanbul after prolonged surveillance and observations

The Bloomberg website reported that Turkish officials confirmed that the new ISIS leader is in custody in the country.

According to foreign sources, the arrest was carried out by special forces from several countries and with the help of American intelligence. Turkish President Erdogan is supposed to provide more details in the coming days.
