History of Israeli football: the youth team qualified for the Euro finals

For the first time in its history, Israel’s youth team qualified for the Euro finals for teams up to the age of 19 after winning the match against the rival team – France.

Israel will compete in the final that will be held on Friday against the England team, which defeated Italy and to which Israel lost on Saturday with a score of 1:0.

In tonight’s game, Israel took a 1-0 lead already in the 30th minute when the French stopper Solimana Toure scored an own goal. In the 57th minute, Israel took a double lead after El Yam Kanzpolski from Hapoel Tel Aviv scored a goal with a corner kick. In the 61st minute, the French team reduced the advantage back after a goal by Alain Virginios that resulted in a 2-1 result that was maintained until the end of the game.

Minister of Culture and Sports Hili Troper reacted to the victory and said: "History on the pitch! Congratulations to the youth team for a huge achievement and for advancing to the Euro finals. Faith, determination and tremendous connection are the story of the team led by Ofir Haim. A group of young people who proved on the field how champions they are. Proud of you!"

The chairman of the association Oren Hasson in Slovakia said that "Sometimes the words run out. And yet – a huge heart, way, investment, rare talent, faith and pride. Happiness for our football, the country we love so much and the millions of Israelis who are overjoyed. And most importantly, a team that believes and insists on dreaming as high as possible. On Friday we are all together from the beginning to the end."

We all stand proudly and cheer for the players, the coach and the professional staff.
