Competition in the market of gadgets and technological products: further easing of import procedures

The Minister of Communications, Yoaz Hendel, adopted the recommendations of the professional team and decided today (Monday) on a significant relief in the commercial and private import of additional products, which comply with European regulations.

Importers will be required to come up with a European standards compliance document and a document detailing the device’s wireless features only (instead of complex and expensive laboratory tests), thus saving costs and time. From now on, technological products and gadgets imported to the European Union will be able to be imported to Israel, while presenting basic documents and commercial imports through a declaration route. This move is expected to affect thousands of commercial importers and significantly ease the import procedure.

Gadgets and wireless technological products operate on radio frequencies and it is necessary to ensure that the wireless devices manufactured in Israel or imported to Israel in increasing quantities will not cause significant electromagnetic interference to communication systems and other users. Therefore, the Minister of Communications decided to allocate additional frequency ranges for technological products imported to Israel both for personal and commercial imports, including products that operate with the Wi-Fi6E technology and products that operate with the Lora technology used by smart cities, including: sensors, smart light switches, smart electricity and water meters, and more.

These concessions will encourage lower prices through the parallel import of products with a European standard and will significantly increase competition in the market of gadgets and technological products.

Minister of Communications, Yoaz Hendel: "When I entered the office, I received complaints about the Wi-Fi 6E, chargers that are not authorized in Israel, and more. I am glad that despite the political instability, we completed the task. The regulations I signed today are the result of hard work that ends up providing better service to the citizen. We continue to promote competition in our areas of responsibility, and reduce regulation where possible to facilitate personal and commercial imports. From now on, there will be a significant relief for importing products with European standards into Israel. This is a move that will ease the parallel import procedure of technological products and gadgets, increase competition in the market, and reduce the cost of living."

CEO"Head of the Ministry of Communications, Liran Avishar Ben-Horin: " The market for gadgets and technological products is changing at a tremendous pace. Regulation should promote innovation and not hinder it. We are announcing today another line of products and technologies that will be allowed to enter Israel and will bring with them innovation and competition in the market. The Israeli consumer knows how to compare prices and buy smart, and the online orders from abroad, which are constantly increasing, testify to this. This is not the last move. We will continue to reduce regulation and promote competition to reduce prices".
