A study by the “Ituran” company on car thefts in the first half of 2023 according to a national sample of about 700,000 vehicles states that there is an increase of about 900% in thefts of electric vehicles compared to the corresponding period last year.
This trend indicates a demand that will continue to grow as a result of demand for electric vehicles for self-use in the Palestinian Authority and even use of the vehicle’s battery for domestic purposes due to difficulties in supplying electricity and numerous power outages in the territories of the Palestinian Authority.
The study by the “Ituran” company states that in the first half of 2023 there is an increase of approximately 220% in car thefts compared to the corresponding period last year due to the lack of spare parts.

The “Ituran” company anticipates the continuation of the trend towards an increase in car thefts also in the second half of 2023.
In the first half of 2023, thefts of Jeeps and Jeeps reached a peak of about 50% of all vehicle thefts, an increase of about 8% in thefts of Jeeps and Jeeps during the period compared to the same period last year.
At the top of the list of stolen vehicles for this period: 50% jeeps and jeeps, 30% private cars, 11% motorcycles, 5% commercial vehicles, 3% trucks, 1% heavy duty vehicles.
Nir Sharetzky, CEO of Ituran: “In the first half of 2023, Ituran led to the arrest of 309 squads suspected of car theft. An increase of 221% compared to the same period last year. The arrest of the thief squads saved the Israeli economy NIS 1.6 billion.”
According to the estimate of the “Ituran” company, about 35 car slaughterhouses operate in the territories of the Palestinian Authority, especially in Tulkarm, Qalqilya, Ramallah, and Hebron, and for the first time also in Jenin.
According to “Ituran” company data:
• In 11% of theft incidents, the car key is found in the possession of the thief
• 18% of all theft attempts were by the violent burglary method
• 64% by connecting and coding to the OBD socket
• 6% by towing/loading the tool and stealing it
• 1% the vehicle was stolen from its owner or the key was left in the vehicle.
