The President of the country, Yitzhak Herzog and his wife Michal, hosted the Oscar winner and British film actress Helen Mirren today (Thursday). The actress came to visit Israel on the occasion of the opening of the Jerusalem Film Festival, during which the movie “Golda” will be screened – in which she plays the former Prime Minister of Israel Golda Meir. The director of the film Guy Nativ also participated in the meeting.

At the beginning of their meeting, the president referred to the character that Helen plays and said: “Golda was an important figure, who heroically led the government. She was a historical figure and had a great influence on our social structure.’
Helen thanked for the warm hospitality and added: “Golda is one of the greatest roles. I was a young woman when she was elected, and choosing a woman to lead a complex country like Israel was a defining moment. I’m often asked if I see a connection between the great leads I’ve played. The closest connection to Golda that I see was Elizabeth I, in the sense of her absolute devotion to her country. She had great charm.”
