Despite the concerns, life is returning to a routine

President Yitzhak Herzog participated today (Wednesday) in the re-opening of the “Ezra Le Marfa” center in the city of Sderot and Kell HaDrom. The opening ceremony was hosted by the journalist Almog Booker and the director of the center Orna Dotan, and was attended by bereaved families, the head of the “Ezra Le Marfa” association Rabbi Elimelech Pirer, the mayor of Sderot Alon Davidi and the commander of the southern district, chief of staff Amir Cohen. Due to the consequences of the war, the center was closed for about five months, and its opening is a landmark in the reconstruction of the city of Sderot.

The President and his wife met with the families of the late Adi Baruch and the late Mor Shakuri. Adi, was killed by a rocket that fell at the entrance of the center. And Mor, she is a policewoman who fell after a heroic battle at the police station in Sderot on the seventh of October.

After the meeting, President Herzog spoke at the reopening and said: “The greatness of this project is the fact that there is a deep connection between body and soul, and we with Israel are facing a very huge challenge both in body and soul. The enemy is coming at us for our brides and the answer we give to him is beyond the tremendous power of the IDF, our daughters and sons who fought and are fighting and sacrificed a truly wonderful generation of young Israelis, Israeli citizens who enlisted in the heavy campaign.”

The President stressed: “The answer we give to those who come to shoot here, to slaughter here in the grass is the dedication of this place, this beautiful place that is amazing in its capabilities, a place that is an example and model for the common life of all Israeli citizens of all beliefs, religions and lifestyles. I think that the commemorations established here in memory of The two women who were killed here, Adi and Mor, will be a sign and example for us in the whole story, and a sign and example for the residents of Sderot who have returned home and are slowly returning to their daily routine despite the anxieties and fears.”

The President concluded his words by saying: “I come here on behalf of the entire nation to strengthen Sderot, and its residents and to tell them – you are Tel Hai of this generation, and may the city rise and bloom and grow and become stronger, and the entire area will return to full revival and life full of peace and quiet. Thank you very much To all of you and may this place provide the best service.”
