Advanced optical fiber will enable a secure terrestrial connection between Asia and Europe

An advanced optical fiber was inaugurated today (Thursday) between Eilat and Be'er Sheva in the presence of the Minister of Communications, Doctor Shlomo Karai. The fiber will enable a secure terrestrial connection between Asia and Europe, bypassing the underwater communication cables in the Red Sea.

Communications Minister Dr. Shlomo Karai said: “I arrived in Eilat this morning to inaugurate an advanced optical fiber of the Cellcom company between Eilat and Be'er Sheva. The fiber will enable a secure terrestrial connection between Asia and Europe, bypassing the underwater communications cables in the Red Sea, and is another layer in the response to threats in the region. In this case, exceptionally, the security response also brings with it great consumer news of competition in the international communications market and of investments in Israel as a global communications center.”

He also said, “In the current security reality, in which the arms of the Iranian octopus are trying to tamper with the submarine cables in order to harm the world's communications – our answer, in the spirit of the times, is unequivocal: 'As they torture it, it will multiply and it will break out.'” The Ministry of Communications will continue to support and encourage the deployment of Quality infrastructure all over the country – cellular and fiber optic, and to bring the State of Israel to the top of the technologically leading countries, for the well-being of all the residents of our country.”
