“Memory Paths” – a navigation application for locating graves of martyrs in military cemeteries

In preparation for Remembrance Day, the Families, Commemoration and Heritage Division is expanding the “Memory Paths” service – a Ministry of Defense application for navigating and locating the graves of Israel's martyrs. The application was expanded this year to 20 military cemeteries and today it is possible by typing a name to navigate to all the graves of the martyrs in the service cemeteries in a pedestrian and accessible manner. In addition, it will be possible to enter the memory page about the space on the “Yizkor” website, read prayer chapters as well as light a virtual candle in memory of the space or a general candle in memory of all the martyrs of Israel's systems.

The system, which was developed through the ICT Division and the Defense Procurement Directorate (DPO) at the Ministry of Defense, will operate in about twenty military cemeteries: Mount Herzl Military Cemetery in Jerusalem, Kiryat Shaul Military Cemetery in Tel Aviv, Haifa Military Cemetery, Holon Military Cemetery, The military cemetery in Netanya, the military cemetery in Be'er Sheva, the military cemetery in Rishon Lezion, the military cemetery in Kiryat Inavim, the military cemetery in Nahariya and the military cemetery in Petah Tikva. This year the military cemeteries were added: Ashdod, Ashkelon, Hadera, Nachalat Yitzhak Tel Aviv, Afula, Rehovot and Kfar Warburg.

Deputy Director and Head of the Families, Commemoration and Heritage Division at the Ministry of Defense, Aryeh Moalem: “Netivy Zecharon is a system for locating and navigating to the graves of the martyrs of the Israeli forces in the various military cemeteries. In preparation for Memorial Day, we expanded the system, and now Israeli citizens visiting the military cemeteries will be able to easily navigate to the graves of their loved ones, while reading the information about them on the 'Yizkor' website and lighting a virtual candle in their memory and in memory of all of Israel's martyrs. Together we will remember all the martyrs of Israel's systems.”
