Our secret weapon is the spirit of our people

Our secret weapon is the spirit of our people

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu together with Transport Minister Miri Regev, who is in charge of the beacon lighting ceremony, met today (Sunday) in the Knesset with the bearers of the beacons on the 76th Independence Day of the State of Israel.

The Prime Minister told the torch bearers: “You represent the heroes of spirit and action in our nation. On the eve of Independence Day we celebrate the 76th Independence Day of the State of Israel. In the War of Independence we were the size of a grain. 600,000 people on the coastline, with their backs to the sea, without weapons. There was a US embargo at the time, by the way, without measures, and five Arab armies were in front of us – and we won. How did we win? Through the heroes of spirit and action. Through the spirit of our people. This is our secret weapon, we have no other weapon. We have, but without this weapon there is no Nothing. This is what you represent today.

Today we are much stronger, but the desire to destroy us has not changed. He existed then, he exists even today and he has accompanied our people for many years. What has changed is our ability to fight back. That's what changed. 80 years ago we suffered the greatest disaster in that we did not have a protective force. We didn't have the power to repel those who wanted to marry us. Today we have It started in the War of Independence and it continues today. This is the biggest change in the history of the Jewish people. The State of Israel, the Israel Defense Forces, Israel's security forces and the spirit of the citizens of Israel, all of them – Jews and non-Jews together, who join together to repel the attack and that is what we are doing and will continue to do.

We will defeat our enemy, we have no other choice. we stand together We only do this together. As we did it then, so we do it today. But what is manifested here is not only the military struggle, it is manifested first of all on the day itself and even though we were attacked, surprised, people mobilized. Citizens, women, men, policemen, policewomen. This story and what happened there is simply unbelievable. And we immediately went on the attack – and the heroes, our heroic soldiers are fighting there.

I met the families of the fallen. I met the wounded. People who lost an arm and a leg. A guy tells me, not one. One after the other: “I'm waiting for the prosthesis because I want to go back to fight, I'm going back to my friends to fight.” It's the wind. We will fight with everything we have. I told my American friends: if necessary we will fight with our nails. We have much more than nails. The main thing we have is what is represented here in this room and what will be shown in the ceremony – this is the bravery of the spirit and the immensity of the soul. The legacy of the generations, the understanding that we are actually fighting for our country, our future and our existence. I want to congratulate you – you represent this spirit in a wonderful way. So go up and succeed and we will continue together to ensure the eternity of Israel.”

This year, 44 of the beacons will light 12 beacons: the Security Forces Beacon, the Rescue Forces Beacon, the Rescuers Beacon, the Standby Classes Beacon, the Information Front Beacon, the Shield Beacon, the Hope Beacon, the Medicine and Rehabilitation Beacon, the Victory of the Spirit Beacon, the Giving Beacon, the Diaspora Beacon and the Beacon 12 That it will burn without goals, and will symbolize the abductees in Gaza who have not yet returned to their homes.
