Zamir, who came to Peru as a volunteer in a non-governmental organization to help needy children and also for travel purposes, set out to travel alone on a challenging mountain route that was supposed to last 11 days. A few days after the start of the trek, Zamir disappeared last April 14. After he had been missing for about a week, Zamir's father and uncle arrived in Peru hoping to help locate him, while cooperating with the local community. At the same time, Israeli rescue teams went out to help in the search, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinating the efforts with the authorities in Peru.
