The Israeli Consulate in New York together with the Israeli delegation to the UN marked the 76th Memorial Day for the fallen of Israel's systems and victims of hostilities in an official ceremony held at the Temple Emanuel Synagogue in memory of the soldiers and civilians who fell in the battle for the defense of the State of Israel.

Israel's consul in New York, Ofir Akunis, addressed those present: “Alliances are important and we appreciate them, but time and time again we learn that we only have to rely on ourselves and our own strength. Memorial Day is always a very painful day, this year it hurts twice as much. At this time our heroic forces We are fighting for the State of Israel. We salute them and support them all. This conflict did not break out on October 7, when the enemy brutally murdered.

Ambassador Akunis also said that “in the past year, I consoled about 60 bereaved families and attended dozens of funerals. In their homes or in their yards I heard the heroic stories of the fallen men and women. They reflected the appeal of the entire Israeli society, Jews and non-Jews, from all over the country.”

Bereaved families lit memorial candles and spoke emotional words of eulogy in memory of their loved ones who fell in the various battlefields. Among the families that participated: Hani Ricardo, Oriya's mother who was murdered at the Nova party in Tel Aviv; Jordana Shoshani, sister of Aharon who fell in the First Lebanon War; Perry Heyman, son of Hillel Neiman who was killed in a training accident in 1970; And Devir Fisher, who was wounded in the fighting in Gaza last November.

Israel's ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, said that “even though terrorism struck us, it didn't take long for the world to turn its back. Support turned into condemnation. The Jewish people are under attack and the world is silent. History repeats itself. Where are the world leaders? Where are their actions? The surge in hatred of Jews proves the importance of Israel's existence more than ever. We do not know what the future holds for the Jews of France or even for the Jews of the United States. We know one thing for sure: only Israel will always fight for the protection of the Jews and be their safe haven!”

Ambassador Erdan also said: “10/7 emphasized another important value: the unity of the Jewish people! This is our most important weapon! The massacre shattered our complacency and made our disputes seem meaningless. We are experiencing an attack on the Jewish people and in the face of these threats, the arguments of the past have no meaning Importance! Let's put aside the differences. Mutual guarantee must be the priority because this is what will ensure the future of Israel.”

The Israeli singer and creator Gili Yalo, winner of the International Emmy Award for the series “Nabso” also appeared at the ceremony.
