Regarding the National-Civilian Service Law proposal, a number of amendments are proposed to complete the said amendment to the Defense Service Law regarding the integration of Yeshiva students, which also includes a national-civilian service track. Among other things, it is proposed to add additional types of bodies where it will be possible to serve, to expand the service possibilities in public bodies, to determine different routes for the periods of service and the amount of hours of weekly service required and to increase the quota of servants that can be placed in Zaka and the rescue union.

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, MK Yuli Edelstein (Likud) wrote on his X page: “The conscription law is now coming to the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. The State of Israel is facing complex challenges, and our job is to give it all the conditions to win. The main consideration will be providing a real and accurate response to the needs of the IDF and the security needs of the State of Israel.

Edelstein also added that “this is a historic turning point for the people of Israel. It is necessary and we have no other choice. We all need a large, efficient and strong IDF and a large, efficient and strong IDF needs all of us. We will do it in a clean, matter-of-fact manner and in full cooperation of all factors. For the sake of the State of Israel we will do and succeed.”

The chairman of the opposition, Yair Lapid, said in response: “One of the most despicable moments of humiliation of the Israeli Knesset ever. In the midst of another day of hard fighting in the Gaza Strip, the promiscuous government passes a law of evasion and refusal. It's all politics. zero values.”

MK Efrat Raiten (Labor) said in the discussion on the “Recruitment Law” that “it is a political move, a cynical ploy, which was formulated out of necessity due to legal and political distress. The government chooses an improper and abbreviated procedure over orderly and proper work.”
