A healthy lifestyle can beat genetics for obesity

A healthy lifestyle can beat genetics for obesity

A new study that examined about 340 thousand subjects in the UK and is currently being published, reveals that a healthy lifestyle can reduce the risk of obesity and obesity-related diseases, even in people with a high genetic risk of obesity.

The study, conducted in the United Kingdom and published in the well-respected magazine “fell metabolism”, indicates that modifiable lifestyle factors such as alcohol consumption, sleep duration, prolonged sitting, diet and physical activity can have a significant impact on health risk even among those with a genetic predisposition to obesity.

Orit Melo, a clinical dietitian from the nutrition department at Assuta Ashdod Public Hospital: “News for the mornings I hear from my patients about the great difficulty in dealing with obesity, one of the most serious diseases of the 21st century. Many of them blame genetics and even raise their hands in front of it.”

Mello emphasizes: “The new research clearly proves that genetics may have a place and influence in everything related to obesity, but maintaining a healthy lifestyle over time overcomes it and the diseases associated with it, so in fact – the excuses are over, everything is in our hands.”
