The Minister of Environmental Protection, Tamar Zandberg, spoke at the conference today (Tuesday) "Environment 2050" Which took place at the Hilton Hotel in Tel Aviv. The Minister referred to the evacuation of the factories from Haifa Bay: " We will build a unique administration that will take care of evacuating the dangerous factories from Haifa Bay. We will insist that a transition to a non-carbon economy will be a rational transition when we know that those who will be harmed along the way are the same weakened populations including workers in the same factories in these industries – so we should all go this route together. Industry has a big responsibility and impact on our lives in the future and they have to adapt to the changing reality. The Israeli industry utilizes our natural resources without any control – the Dead Sea, the desert, the forests and the coral reefs, it must reduce its impact to a minimum and repair what has been damaged. Anyone who thinks this is a passing government and other governments will change their policy is wrong and misleading. Although the coalition is not homogeneous and there are many opinions, sometimes it is difficult to reach decisions, but it is clear to everyone that climate and environmental issues are common to all of us and are high on the list of priorities."
Zandberg noted that:"I am proud to say that I led Israel to reset emissions – Israel is moving to a zero-resettlement economy and we will stand in line with the Western world. We understand that ambitious goals need to work now and not in the future in 2050. The zero emissions policy in the Gulf of Eilat prevented the extent of Katz’s oil transportation"A – a decision that was backed by the court, we also froze the mining of phosphates all over the country.
"The struggle against the climate crisis has long been not just a struggle for the future, but the present. Israel is at the forefront of the climate catastrophe, and we must do much more, and much faster. To reach the goals of 2050 we must change quickly, and we are already leading the change", Said Minister Tamar Zandberg. "Together with our partners in the government, we will promote the implementation of the decision to evacuate the factories in Haifa Bay, and we will establish an administration that will plan and lead the evacuation. We also support the policy of stopping gas exploration in Israel, not just for one year, but permanently. Because gas is indeed a fuel of the past, it is also a fuel of the past, when an economy based on clean and renewable energy is just around the corner and we must throw all our love to exhaust it.".
Minister Tamar Zandberg also said that "I am happy to say that we have restarted the promotion of the Climate Law. The year 2022 will be remembered for generations as a year in which Israel passed a comprehensive and effective climate law, which will for the first time establish a government mechanism to deal with all the challenges of climate change, while meeting goals and preparing for the consequences to come. I hereby also inform my government partners that I will not compromise on this. We have no more time to waste, enough time has passed since the government was formed, and promises must be kept. I will stand by it as a basic condition. The Climate Law is enshrined in coalition agreements, and this law will be included in the law book of the State of Israel.".
Zandberg added that "The industry has a very big responsibility and a real impact on our future, so it must be part of the solution and adapt to the changing reality. Our transition will be a gradual but rapid transition to an economy based on renewable energies. Anyone who looks up to changes in government in Israel and thinks that perhaps this government is a passing episode, and other governments will reverse the trends – is wrong and misleading. All over the world, international companies and the entire financial market are adapting to an era of climate crisis. An industry that wants to stay competitive and survive in the new world will have to adapt".
