A 10-year-old boy was attacked in the Old City

Attorney Haim Bleicher from the Honnu organization filed an appeal with the prosecutor's office demanding that an investigation be opened into the attack on a 10-year-old Jewish boy about a year ago in the Old City of Jerusalem. The boy was walking down the street when suddenly an Arab woman appeared in front of him and began to attack him with blows to his face and body while pulling his hair. The boy's family filed A complaint was made to the police about the attack and the attacker was arrested and investigated but the case was closed even though it was recorded on the police cameras on the grounds that it does not fit the criminal framework.

In the appeal, Attorney Bleicher describes the attack on the child: “On 5/20/23, my client returned from the Western Wall to his home on HaGai St. as part of a secure escort. At one point he met his father, stopped for a short moment to talk with him, and immediately hurried forward and rejoined the companions who were advancing further down the street. At these moments, a minority woman noticed that he was alone, and decided to harass him with an anti-Semitic motive. The suspect approached him and startled him, while approaching his personal space. The boy was frightened and demanded that she stay away and leave him.'

“In response, the suspect physically attacked him, pulled one of his bangs, and hit him in the face and body. The frightened boy began to shout “Save him” at the escort but his voice was no longer heard. Miraculously, two Jewish guys passed by, he turned to them for help, and the attacker stopped her actions and moved away from the place,” described Bleicher.

Bleicher emphasizes in the appeal the severe harm experienced by the child and demands that the investigation file be opened and the attacker be prosecuted: “Closing the case constitutes a scandal. An adult minority girl who attacks a child in an anti-Semitic and severe manner, while humiliating and pulling his wigs, constitutes a very serious and destructive criminal act. “There is a first and foremost need to create punishment and deterrence for acts similar to these. I will ask to open the investigation file and order the prosecution of the suspect for a terrorist act of attacking a helpless person under aggravating circumstances,” added Attorney Bleicher.
