Why are we falling into the trap that Netanyahu is laying?

Bassem Naim, a member of the political bureau of Hamas, commented today (Thursday) on the deal that is taking shape regarding the cease-fire in the Gaza Strip and said: “Journalists and various media contacted me today to find out about the latest proposal for negotiations in Cairo between the movement and the Israelis through mediators. The repeated questions are about” The hostages in Gaza, how many of them are alive or dead, did Hamas reject the offer because it cannot release 40 hostages in the first stage, etc.?

According to him, “We are talking about a cease-fire negotiation, not a negotiation about a prisoner deal. The prisoner deal is one of the sections that will be discussed. Why are we falling into the trap that Netanyahu is laying? The negotiation process is like the peace process, to create a negotiation process without any intention of reaching an agreement of any kind. Everyone knows today that he is ready to sacrifice even the lives of his people, in order to save himself from what will happen the day after.”

“Every human life is precious. No one asks me about the thousands of innocent Palestinians kidnapped by Israel after October 7, at least 3,000 from Gaza, including women and children, some of whom were executed in the square in front of their families and others in Israeli detention camps.” Naim claimed and added, “The lives of their people are not more valuable than ours. All people are chosen as “humans”, without definition of religion, color, sex, race or nationality.”

He noted that “part of the negotiations is to reach a cease-fire agreement so that we have enough time to collect more definitive and accurate data on the Israeli prisoners, because they are scattered in the strip and held by different organizations. Some of them are even dead under the rubble and we are also negotiating to obtain equipment Heavy to rescue them.”

Regarding the demands of Hamas, he said that “our demands at the negotiating table are expected and known, but it is important that these results be a real guarantee for sustainable peace and the opening of the way for aid and the reconstruction of Gaza, in order to give our people a horizon of hope. No Palestinian in Gaza will be ready to accept the military presence of Israel inside the Gaza Strip and give legitimacy to Israel to start a new aggression against our people (since they are proposing a temporary halt to the war) and then continue to do so.”

In conclusion, a member of the political bureau of Hamas noted that “2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza have been displaced from their homes. What the Israelis were unable to achieve through extensive bombing and genocide for six months, they will not be able to achieve with more force or through absurd or illusory negotiations.”
