“Stab him, stab him” – a murder conviction on a beach in Rishon Lezion

The Central District Court convicted Assaf Bergig of the (intentional) murder of the late Yosiah Blum at the beach in Rishon Lezion. The indictment filed in 2020 by lawyer Roy Los from the Central District Attorney's Office indicates that in August 2020 Bergig and his friends arrived at the beach “four On four” in Rishon Lezion around two o'clock in the morning.

When they returned to their cars after the entertainment, the deceased's car was parked near them. After an argument between Bergig's group and the deceased's group of friends, a fight began to develop and Bergig approached the deceased, with his friend encouraging him: “Stab him, stab him.”

Bergig pulled out the knife and stabbed the deceased six times in the back. After the stabbings, the deceased fled, but collapsed after about 35 meters and collapsed. Rescuers who arrived at the scene evacuated the deceased to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The panel of judges unanimously determined that Bergig stabbed the deceased with the purpose of causing his death: “In sum, the conclusion that is required from the totality of the circumstantial evidence is that the accused stabbed the deceased to death. The accused brought the knife with him from his home to impress his friends, carried it in his possession throughout that night without who broke up with her, took her with him to a fight, stabbed the deceased with it, got back in the car with the knife covered in blood, and then threw the knife out of the car. The accused even boasted about his actions, when he said in the car: “Did you see what I did to him?” The deceased intentionally caused his death.”

Attorney Roi Los: “Today we received the verdict in the case in which an innocent man was murdered who fell into a completely unexpected situation and it is a scenario that expresses a tragic event that we as a society should eradicate and condemn. A normal person goes out in the evening to a public place and does not return. This conviction reflects the efforts of the enforcement authorities to do everything possible to bring justice to everyone who takes part in the event in which a person's life was taken. We share in the family's grief and will continue to be in touch with them as we have done so far.”
