Former member of the Knesset Aryeh Eldad arrived this morning (Thursday) to visit the Temple Mount to guide a group of immigrants. During the visit, the police encouraged the group not to stop for more than two minutes at any point. Despite Eldad's requests, the police did not allow him to explain about the historical place at any point beyond two minutes.
At one point, after being happy for the encouragement, he asked to stop for more than two minutes to complete his explanations to the visitors and protested the conduct of the police officers. In light of this, the police decided to take him outside the mountain and informed him that he was detained.
Tom Nissani, CEO of Bidino for the Temple Mount, said: “Beyond the fact that Aryeh Eldad is a former member of the Knesset, the reality on the Temple Mount is disconnected from the Israeli reality: at every historical site, the state encourages citizens to come and visit. Whereas in the holiest place they don't allow more than two minutes of explanation? Maybe it would have been better if Aryeh Eldad had blocked a road in Ayalon or lit a fire, and then he would have received better treatment from the police – that's a shame.”
The Temple Mount Administration said that 2,125 Jews have gone up to the Mount since the beginning of Passover. The immigrations were conducted quickly and in large, parallel groups at the same time, which enabled the immigrants to quickly enter the Temple Mount without waiting in the heavy heat.
