Seven protesters were arrested in Tel Aviv, MK Karib: “purely political arrests”

The Israel Police approved the request to hold the protest this evening (Saturday), in accordance with the conditions established with the organizers at the Kaplan Junction in Tel Aviv. In light of the request of the organizers and others to maintain the safety and well-being of the public, the protesting authority has the Kaplan Junction closed, with the aim of allowing a balance between the freedom of protest in a legitimate manner , and freedom of movement with minimal disruption to routine.

At the end of the approved protest, most of the protestors dispersed and kept order. On the other hand, despite the discussion with the organizers and the permission given by the police for a regulated complex at Kaplan Junction, a number of protesters gathered illegally on Menachem Begin Road and began to break the order, lighting flares and running towards Ayalon Road through Gesher Yehudit, in an attempt to get down to the road and break the order.

Police forces managed to prevent the rioters from going down to Ayalon, after the demonstrators confronted the police and disobeyed orders. During the containment of the protesters, seven suspects were arrested who violated the order and confronted the police. Israel Police officers continue to operate on the scene in maintaining security and public order. All roads are open to vehicle traffic.

Member of Knesset Gilad Karib on the false arrests this evening in Tel Aviv: “The Israeli police carried out a series of purely political arrests in Tel Aviv this evening that will end like hundreds of previous arrests – in the release of the demonstrators. If the Israel Police wants to make the bruised minister and serial traffic offender happy, they should be satisfied with a bouquet of flowers and chocolate and not false arrests of demonstrators.'
